we gathered the troops to watch the results come in on election night. we had an election themed potluck. I served up my famous white ‘i can see’ russians.

After Obama’s win became official, we went up to Bedford and N7th to dance in the streets with our friends and neighbors. After 8 years, bush was finally on his way out. The intersection was packed. There were people singing, drummers drumming, and the the police decided to clear the street.
For some reason, the NYPD thought the sparse 3 am traffic was a more important use of our streets than a spontaneous public celebration of democracy.
As one reveler was cuffed and carted away she yelled “one day I’m going to tell my grandchildren that the night obama was elected i was arrested for dancing in the streets!”
